Maui is one of the most captivating places in the world.
Staying at the Four Seasons in Wailea was undoubtedly the nicest resort in the area, a tropical haven catering to your simplest needs. We arrived and felt completely relaxed. The rest of the week would be all about us completely unplugging from our daily lives.
The first night in Maui, we enjoyed a wonderfully satisfying meal at Spago. Asian-inspired cuisine mixed with contemporary design gave way to breathtaking views of Maui’s coastline feeling both comfortable and romantic. We started with amuse bouche of Spicy Ahi Tuna ’Poke’ in sesame -miso cones with chili aioli pickled ginger and the Kula Corn Risotto. The entrees were just as spectacular consisting of local fish and traditional island spices. Finishing the evening with some Prosecco in our hotel bar we headed to bed happy and well fed.

Monday, we decided to spend our day at the serenity pool. The name says it all. A pool designed for those over the age of twenty-one, provides a perfect reprieve for those in search of a quiet retreat. Infinity-edge designs which showcase panoramic ocean view,s the pool provides amenities throughout the day complete with poolside lounge chairs and casabellas. We ended up spending a lot of time there , as you’d imagine.
In addition to enjoying the amenities the hotel had to offer, we also took some side trips. We did the usual snorkeling with sea turtles/tropical fish which was great (although my other half, did not follow directions as clearly and almost got bitten by some of the wildlife). The one adventure that sticks out the most is our off -roading experience. I was a bit of a nervous wreak as we drove through the rain on winding cliff side roads that haven’t been maintained since the fifties. That being said, we did see parts of Maui that were barely inhabited. On one side we saw nothing but mountains that protruded as far as the eye could see while on the other was nothing but pristine ocean.
Driving for nearly three hours, we worked up quite the appetite in the car so it turned out to be the perfect evening to try the infamous Mama’s Fish House. Recommended by several friends of ours, we knew we were in for a special treat. I have to admit that while the food was outstanding, it was more of a production than a romantic dinning experience. The place is clearly busy every night and the attitude of the waitstaff is ‘get them in and out.’ I was glad that we went, but personally we had better dinning experiences over the course of the week.

Feeling relaxed, well fed, and in good company we really weren’t ready to leave by the week’s end. I guess we’ll just start planning our next trip instead…
